1. Post your own local candidates if you would like.
This would be a good place to do it.

2. is that the "AJ Benintende" that wrote this?
Marion Collom's recent letter criticizing the Press-Register's November 27
editorial on "Voting for the Future" by saying it "....spins the facts....to
promote its Republican candidates." is a fine example of how to spin facts.
Since "spinning" either by individuals, newspapers or political parties
sometimes tends to mislead the public, I want to respond to Collum with a "counter-spin".

Compared to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and most of the Democratic
members of Congress, Congressman Jo Bonner is a fiscal conservative. I am
aware of his record and believe that he represents his constituents (all of
them regardless of party affiliation) well.

The writer says that "....Democrats believe we should pay as we go....".
My interpretation of that is: most Democrats believe in socialism; and, we pay
tax while they go spend. Most Republicans and conservative independents recognize the need to restrain spending on unnecessary programs and "pork" projects.

A recent Democratic National Committee pamphlet I received states:
"Under Democratic leadership, the 110th Congress is focusing on the real
priorities of the American people, working to end the war in Iraq and
restoring accountability --- with a return to fiscal discipline." I do not
believe the American people want Congress to withhold support and funding of
the troops and defense department, but that is happening right now. Why?
Fiscal responsibility or Democratic political posturing??

Lastly, the writer says that the Press-Register tries to make President Bush
and Congressman Bonner look good and that that cannot be done. Well, I
agree. The editorial does not change who they are and what they have done.
Their records speak a lot louder than an editorial or a letter by someone
(who I assume is Democrat and admittedly not stupid) who likes to spin.

With the leadership performance and accomplishments of a Democratic Congress
at an all time low, with support of our troops and the results of their
valiant efforts greatly improving, now is not the time for someone to be
attacking our President and Congressman Jo Bonner for the fiscal decisions
they make or have made.

Sincerely,

A. J. Benintende
Gulf Shores, AL
