Gerald Allen running for state senate
TUSCALOOSA | State Rep. Gerald Allen announced today that he will seek the Republican nomination to challenge incumbent Democratic Sen. Phil Poole in Senate District 21.

Speaking before about 40 supporters in the County Commission meeting room at the county courthouse, Allen said he believes he can be part of a movement in which Republicans can take over the Alabama Legislature for the first time since Reconstruction.

Allen, of Cottondale, is in his fourth term in the House, where he represents District 62 in west Tuscaloosa County.

Allen likened what is happening in Alabama to Congress, where the Democrats are in firm control.

“Look at Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid today,” Allen said. “If that doesn’t scare you, nothing will.”

No, Gerald. I'll tell you what scares me is having Gerald Allen running the government. Mr. Allen is a very nice man on a personal level, but his political views are akin to a Christian Taliban.

I'm not a huge fan of the incumbent, Phil Poole, but I'm hoping old Phil sends this sucker back home to Cottondale for good.
