MONTGOMERY -- Artur Davis' campaign to become Alabama's first black governor is drawing attention far beyond the state.

Prominent New York attorney Sanford Rubenstein scheduled a fundraiser for the Birmingham congressman Monday night in Manhattan.


Invitations to the fundraiser at Rubenstein's penthouse suggested contributions between $1,000 and $10,000.

Davis' opponent in the Democratic primary, Agriculture Commissioner Ron Sparks, said he was also having a fundraiser Monday night. It was at a fish camp in Millport.

Is the money he gets worth the terrible ass PR of taking New York money especially against a good ole country boy who grew up with the Alabama band

2. Hilliard's campaign complained about all that "Jewish money from New York"

And it didn't help him much. Then again, I think Ron Sparks is a better person than Earl Hilliard.
