I have been pleasantly surprised at the liberal voices that I've encountered on that site. It's a clearinghouse of sorts for Huntsville, Birmingham, and Mobile.

Yes, there are the mouth-breathers out there. That is to be expected anywhere.

It's been nice to keep up with things from my hometown of Huntsville. I love Alabama, but I left when I was 19 to join the Army. I didn't want to move back because it was too red for me. Still is.

Still, there's nothing prettier than the state of Alabama. Some places in my adopted homestate of NC come close, but I still miss Alabama.

1. I take a look at it
every so often. Like you, I've seen promising voices there.

I miss Alabama, as well.

2. It's an interesting site. You can set your default to Mobile
I have mine set to default to Huntsville. You can still look at Alabama news as a whole.

I like adding a liberal voice to the comments. Ticks off the mouth breathers!

6. No kidding!
I was born and grew up there!

You may enjoy reading its history as a single tax colony. You'll also love the bike paths, the bay, the arts and crafts festival... be happy there!

8. Here's a link, and you can Google more.

There are bike paths going along the bluff south of the Big Pier, that run down to the Grand Hotel in Point Clear.

(Apologies to OP for hijacking this thread for hometown enthusiasm!)

13. Good luck with your job search!!
When I was living in Columbia, TN last year, I was looking hard for a job in Huntsville. Columbia is only 46 miles from the Alabama state line. Alas, I never found anything so we moved back to North Carolina.

11. Alabama has it all - plains, mountains, coastline
I get a little misty when I think of the beauty of Alabama. I miss the state, but not the state government.

And you are welcome for the info. :D

10. If you scroll down below the news stories, there is a place for comments
You have to have a login first.

Beware of the wingnuts, lol!

I hate their forums. The interface that is. I wish they would license the "heavily modified" version of DC Forums from elad. ;)

12. Oh, the forums are horrible, I'll grant you that
I'm finding that most forums are. Lazy programming is what it is.

I had posting and not being able to indicate who I am replying to. It gets very confusing. So, I end up posting the person's username and some of their comments in quotes. That way they know who I am responding to if there is any doubt.

I go there for the sports coverage, too. Gotta read about the Tide somewhere since I'm in ACC/NASCAR country!!!

16. I use it to look for local news, but....
...commenting is a different story. For some reason, I can't log in at all when I use Firefox, so I have to switch to Google Chrome instead. That place still has a lot of bugs that need shaking out.

NC is gorgeous too, the more I learn about it the more I like it.
But, exceedingly happy to be here in rural Ala. even if I am surrounded by fundies.

Sorry you can't be here, tho. I know how ya feel.
