Do my ears deceive me?
Kay Ivey, in her latest campaign ad, calls the Mobile Register a "liberal" newspaper. Excuse me?

In a state rife with right-wing newspapers, isn't the Mobile paper at, or very near, the very rightward edge?

Here's her commmercial: http://vimeo.com/10013487

In any event, her claim that the Register is "liberal" is laughable. And, incidentally, her voice and accent really grate on my nerves. She's almost as bad as Gomer Pyle, Guy Hunt, or Paula Deen. At least Gomer was a nice guy, Guy Hunt couldn't really help it, and Paula Deen cooks a tasty pork roast. I find no such redeeming quality in this putrid example of a gubernatorial aspirant. None of the other Republicans are any better, really. And that is what is so sad. One of those Republicans is likely to be our next governor, and they all suck in a major way. And even the guy that is likely to be the Democratic nominee is running circles around himself, in order to put distance between him and every major Democratic, or liberal principle. It's quite a sad state of affairs, all around.

But it was Kay Ivey's ridiculous assertion that the Mobile Register is a liberal rag that motivated this post. I mean, it's a statement from another planet, for anyone that resides on planet Earth.

1. Screeching about taxes and accusing critics of being liberals
no matter how absurd the claim seems to be standard procedure in this state. Even though calling the Mobile Register liberal is quite a stretch. A spandex clad Rush type of stretch.

Speaking of the governor's race, how bad do you think it's going to be? I mean, is it going to be a case of Moore, or one of the lesser Repugs who will prevail?

I really don't see Davis or Sparks even coming close at this point.

2. I think this Bradley Byrne might win
I think I hate him, but he's really blanketing us with millions of dollars of horse shit.

4. I peeked at your facebook
And I hope you will start posting in here. Off and on I've been trying to save this forum. Most recently, I've pretty much given up.

A few years ago, this was one of the most active state forums, in proportion to population.

But it has been a wasteland for a good while.

I just looked at your FB page, and you seem tailor-made for DU. I hope you'll stick around.

5. I think the reason people aren't posting so much now is
that it's not a presidential year. The Democratic primary was pretty exciting, and then winning the Presidency and Congress on top of that!

But the economy and the lack of unity among Dem Congresspeople has dampened everyone's enthusiasm IMO.

6. From Ivey's perspective the Press may be liberal. I read LTTE from AL's 5 largest papers daily and
the Press publishes very few that are liberal.

My conclusion is from two decades of observing AL papers.

7. hi Jody
I hope your heart is doing good.

I think the Mobile paper is way to the right of the Birmingham News. And that's saying something.

8. And Bradley Byrne just crapped in his mess kit.

At least here in Baldwin County.
Byrne muffed it and pandered to the wrong group. I think he assumed that the stalwart no-new-taxes conservatives of Baldwin County wouldn't vote to increase their own taxes, not even by a measly penny on the dollar, to help bail out the schools.

Woopsey! Turned out he backed the wrong horse, and may have lost a lot of votes here.
And he could have (should have) just issued a bland, take-no-side statement like "I trust the good citizens of Baldwin County to do what they think is in their best interest."
Also, I'm told that he has a son at Fairhope High School.
I thought he was a better politician than that.

By the way, from his latest TV commercial it looks like he's running against Washington, D.C. and President Obama. I guess that's a sure thing in Alabama.
