I suspect Nick Saban is a libtard
I already knew that the coach's best friend is the Democratic governor of West Virginia. So I already assumed he wasn't a total right-winger.

But last night they had a story about Saban being a student at Kent State forty years ago. He was there when those students were shot by the National Guard.

And the reporter asked him what he thought of "the song." And he said he thought it was a great song!

If he was a right-winger, he would never call it a great song.

If Coach Saban keeps winning, but it gets out that he is a liberal, would Alabama fans still like him?

(I've heard rumors that he's an atheist, too.)

1. I had always thought that Saban was of the Democratic persuasion...
hadn't heard of the atheist rumors, though. From my own personal experience, revelations of that nature can have ugly consequences here.
As long as he keeps winning, though, I expect that most fans will choose to ignore his political or spiritual beliefs.
Until he drops a few games...

2. In this state?
Football > Politics > Jesus.
I don't think they'd care what he was as long as he's winning games.

3. I asked my sister
who has met him (she's an alumni, as is her husband, and they have season tickets). They watch O'Reilly, go to church, etc.

She said she's suspected he's liberal for some time now, but really doesn't care, nor does anyone she knows. She hasn't heard about the atheist rumour at all, though. She said she doesn't care about that, either.

4. thanks for the report
When I first read that first 'graph, I thought my theory was blown. "They watch O'Reilly." But then I realized you were talking about your sister and brother-in-law. Come to think of it, I sometimes watch O'Reilly myself. But for amusement, rather than enlightenment.

Did your sister indicate what caused her to suspect the coach of being liberal?

6. she says
it has a deal to do with his past and a few comments he's made over the years. Mostly, it's because she thinks he must have been affected by seeing the poor conditions the players mostly come from.

In her heart, I think she's secretly a liberal, but her husband's nearly a Paulite freeper type, and her church likely brainwashes her. I don't have too hard a time getting her to agree with liberal positions, she just never has accepted the fact that she may be a liberal, because liberals are bad, and she's not bad. It's a twisted bit of logic the right sets up.

FWIW, she loved Colbert Report until her husband (I suspect) figured out it's nothing but parody of Papa Bear O'Reilly. Now they're always too busy to watch it. :eyes:

7. at the top of the page
there's an icon of pencil marked "Post". It's the sixth icon from the left, in between "My DU" and "Mark". Just hit it, and you start your own thread.

8. Bama fans will always love him.
Might bring the state along a little to find out he was a lib. He grew up a poor coal miners son, of course he's a dem.
