Apparently, MTV is going to have a spin-off of "The Jersey Shore," called "The Redneck Riviera." :grr:
It's open to people between 21 and 30. So, I'm too old.
They say it's not about exploitation, but check out the casting call for the thing.
"Do you consider "liberal" a dirty word? Is your idea of the perfect vacation going to Panama City or Daytona, buying Miller beer by the case, partying and dancing the night away among neon-lighted strips of bars while spending the day on the beach with a cold one in your hand and watching bikini bull-riding contests? If you answered yes to any of the above, we're looking for you! It's time to show the other coasts (and the rest of the nation) the place where the South parties and plays...where the sand is warm and the drinks are always cold."
I like some of that stuff. I love going to the Gulf Coast, but I usually chose between PC and Gulf Shores... or maybe Destin or Fort Walton. (Haven't been since the oil disaster.)
I like to party, but think dancing is a pointless waste of energy.
I love neon. It's a dying art.
I've never seen a "bikini bull-riding contest," but I could be persuaded to sample one.
Here's another part.
"Do you drink sweet tea, talk endlessly about Nascar, sport a rebel flag (on your bikini or jacked-up pickup truck), listen to loud country and/or Southern rock, or enjoy walking around shirtless or in daisy dukes?"
I like tea. I haven't drank any in literal years, but I used to like it when my mom made it for me. Maybe I should buy some. It's easy to brew.
I
never talk endlessly about NASCAR. The closest I ever came was when Dale Earnhardt got killed. For the next 36 hours, I asked every person I met, "hey, did you hear about Dale Earnhardt?"
I've never owned
anything with a Confederate flag on it, nor a "jacked-up pickup."
I like some country music, and a lot of Southern Rock. But my favorite band of all time is from Canada.
And I never go around shirtless, even when I'm alone, and most definitely not in Daisy Dukes. "Oh the Humanity!' at the very thought.
And I think "liberal" is a beautiful word. More people would agree, if the word had not been so terribly abused.
Just think what MTV has done for New Jersey, and how much ammo we have to offer.
To get to my point... I think it would be very funny if some of you younger liberals from Alabama pretended to be rednecks and got on that show. And hi-jinks ensued.
