damn it. Ron Sparks supports Richard Shelby
Sparks, a Democrat, said he supports Tuscaloosa Republican Richard Shelby in his bid for re-election to the U.S. Senate because of Shelby’s experience and ability to get things done.

“I don’t want Richard Shelby getting beat,” he said. “I want Richard Shelby helping me to save the Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville. I want Richard Shelby to help me when we start looking at military closures in Alabama because they are extremely important. Can you imagine the economic impact of the military leaving Alabama?”

I give up.

1. I didn't mean "I give up" literally
That was just a sigh of exasperation.

I was excited by Artur Davis' chance to become the first black governor of Alabama. I was disappointed by his betrayal of his Democratic base, so I voted for his rival Sparks, because I thought he was a bit more liberal (and I still think he is).

And now Sparks comes out in favor of one of the worst members of the Senate -- from the other party.

I know Shelby is a virtual lock for re-election, due to pork mostly.

But goddamn, sometimes it gets to be so hard to be a liberal, or even a Democrat, in some places.

Like here.

Don't worry... I ain't flipping. ;)

2. Don't give up
It is hard to be a liberal and a Democrat in Alabama. Both sides are against you, literally. All we can do is stay in the fight, work harder, and smarter.

Sparks' endorsement of Shelby is disappointing, but not that surprising. He's a panderer and is obviously hoping to attract some Shelby money and ride on Shelby's coattails in November. I wonder if he will now issue a statement claiming to have been misquoted to patch things up with liberal Dems?
