BIRMINGHAM

The Metro Birmingham Branch NAACP is recruiting volunteers for long term relief and assistance for those affected by the devastating tornadoes that swept through metro Birmingham on April 27, 2011. The loss of life and property is staggering. It is clear to us that assistance will be needed for sometime and therefore we are compiling a list of volunteers who can be available to help throughout this time of recovery. Volunteers will be fitted with their skill set and duties as needed.

Duties include yet not limited to: clerical, clean up, tree & debris removal from private property.

Presently volunteers are needed at Scott Elementary School, Cherry Ave. and 78 Highway starting at 7:30 a.m. each day in partnership with the office of Alabama State Representative Juandalynn Givan.

Volunteers are asked to travel 78 Highway to avoid debris and cleanup, rescue and recovery efforts.

Donations of bottled water, toiletries, canned goods, non-perishables food items, hand santizer and paper products can be delivered to the Metro Birmingham Branch NAACP Office - 1520 4th Avenue North Birmingham, AL 35203 Noon - 5:00 p.m. These items will be provided to shelters and other command centers in the affected areas.

The NAACP is also monitoring the services that must be provided to our citizens with our governmental agencies. Our prayers are with the families and those affected.
