Question for Tuscaloosa DUers (I'm coming your way this week!)
I promise to leave my orange and blue at home! I'm going to be at a conference in Tuscaloosa from Tuesday to Friday this week, and don't know how free my time will be in the evenings. If I can get away, though, any great local restaurants or special events of interest this week? I'm particularly interested in finding a Middle Eastern restaurant and/or grocery store if there is one in the area.

Thanks in advance for your help! I'd love to meet some of you if time permits - I'm kind of at the mercy of the group on this trip, so will have to play it by ear...

2. there's me and Ripley at least
But I can't think of any middle-eastern restaurants, nor any big events going on this week. There's an Indian restaurant or two, I think. That's as good as I can do -- I don't eat out much. :) But I hope you enjoy your visit. :hi:

3. I Believe
BamaCrat is a student at UA. Nocturnes is also in T-Town.

That makes 4 Tuscaloosa DUers right?

8. Me Either
He was very helpful though. He worked at the T-Town Dem HQ across the street from Krispy Kreme.

He even sent me two Kerry/Edwards bumper stickers! I put 'em to good use down here with all of these Bushwacked folks. ;)

5. T-town
Hooligan's on University Blvd. (Edge of downtown & the strip) serves middle eastern food. But it's more of a "falafel and a burger" type joint than a nicer restaurant, know what I mean? In any event, highly recommended.

There used to be a grocery store in the meadowbrook shopping center (McFarland Blvd) that sold organics, ethnic cuisine, etc... It's called Manna grocery.

Hands down the best place to eat in T-Town is DePalmas on University Blvd. downtown. Italian, moderately priced, and a great atmosphere.

Enjoy!

6. Go to
Tuscaloosa's finest barbecue restaurant, Archibald's in Northport. Just ribs and butt, and there's no place to sit down, but it isworth any inconvenience.

7. I must've missed something
Ate there once and was unimpressed. The fact that the place was a total dump probably didn't help w/ that.

9. Archibald's Was Okay
But how could anything beat Dreamland? Ain't nuthin like em, not nowhere!

DePalma's (downtown) and the Cypress Inn (River Road area) are my favorite spots. Bob Baumhower's Wings ain't bad either.

She'll be in for a treat though. Those barners from Auburn only have a Wendy's to go to. I'll forgive her though, she is a good ol Democrat. :P

10. Thanks, thanks and thanks!
Though I ended up with virtually no free time during my week in Tuscaloosa, I really appreciate all you Crimson Tide faithful who gave me such good and detailed advice. I will come back to Tuscaloosa on my own sometime soon just to check out the good places you recommend!

Sorry I couldn't reply sooner - had no internet access during my conference and came home with a nasty virus last week. Just now getting back to the land of the living tonight.

I am so glad I have the chance to get to know all of you Alabama DU'ers. You give me hope for my daughter's future! =)

12. Slow down, there, friend! =)
I was speaking about hope for my daughter's future in the larger, metaphorical sense. Bama bound? Surely you jest! I grew up in Auburn and defected to the University of Georgia - folks back home took solace in the fact that "at least she didn't go to Alabama!"

Luckily, she's only five right now, so there's plenty of time for choosing colleges (and for figuring out how in the hell we are going to pay for aforementioned college!). But I would have no problem with her going to the University of Alabama. Great school, great town, great people!
