Most of them, like Martha Toms, lived on the margins of polite society.
None of them deserved to die.
Anchorage police have had little success solving these killings. They made arrests in only two of the cases. The suspect in Della Brown's killing was acquitted. Only Tina Shangin's killer was convicted.
Whatever the reason, somebody has gotten away with homicide. Anchorage can't let that happen again.
Our community needs to send a strong statement: We will do whatever we can to ensure justice for all victims, regardless of their social status. The women who were slain were not throwaways whose fate can be ignored
