The subtitle of this story is: "Don't make Jason Fisher mad."
-----------------------------------
A 20-year-old Fairbanks man was charged with first-degree murder Thursday, almost 16 months after the victim's head was found in the trunk of his car, according to Alaska State Troopers.
Jason Fisher is suspected of killing and dismembering acquaintance David J. Mason, 23, a Fairbanks resident and former U.S. Army serviceman.
Mason's head, along with assorted cutting devices, were found June 25, 2004, about a month after Mason was reported missing. They were wrapped in a tarp in an abandoned vehicle registered to Fisher, according to court records. Troopers also reportedly found other body parts in a jar in the vehicle.
Troopers kept the homicide investigation secret until now to aid investigators, said trooper spokesman Greg Wilkinson.
It took months and finally a DNA analysis to confirm the remains belonged to Mason, Wilkinson said. Connecting Fisher to the murder took longer, he added.
