More than anything else, Tony Knowles, if nominated(and yes, I realize that he probably will be)needs to remember that he is running as a member of a PARTY, not just for himself. Knowles needs to campaign hard to elect Dems to the Legislature, and to at least help the party be competitive in the Congressional race(which we can be if we do the sensible thing and nominate Diane Benson). n If we allow Knowles to once again make the fall race all about himself, we will be badly hurt as a party.
For one, as the Nineties proved, it wasn't that valueable to have a Democratic governor if we were going to concede the legislature to the GOP neanderthals. At one point, those scumbags actually tried to evict the governor's office from the capital building. They believe God gave them their majority. They need to be stopped, and only an all out-effort to break the GOP lock on the House and Senate can stop them.
Secondly, as 2002 proved, if we focus solely on the governor's race and concede everything else(as we did)we leave ourselves powerless and irrelevant IF WE CAN'T WIN THAT RACE. The fact is, a Knowles victory, desirable as it would be, is not a sure thing, as 2004 proved. If a mediocrity like Senator Princess can beat Tony, Palin, Binkley or even Frank the Bank should he make a Lourdes-like comeback and win the primary all have excellent chances of beating Knowles. We need him working for the rest of the ticket and ourselves doing the same simply as self-protection if nothing else.
Everyone agree with me on this one?
