KEEP CLEAN ELECTIONS IN AZ
YOUR HELP IS URGENTLY NEEDED!

Senate Concurrent Resolution 1036 will be heard in the Senate Judiciary Committee this Monday, February 21, 2005, at 1:30 p.m.

SCR 1036 is a Concurrent Resolution that would place on the ballot the question to do away with Clean Elections. We are asking for your help to contact members of the Senate Judiciary Committee and ask them to oppose this measure.

It is very important that we stop this bill because it does NOT need a super majority to pass (3/4 vote) but only a simple majority. And the Governor can NOT veto this measure.

Below are only a few of many reasons why Clean Elections should be saved. Please feel free to elaborate more on any of these talking points when asking members of the Senate Judiciary Committee to vote NO on SCR 1036:

*****************

- Clean Elections gives ordinary Arizonans the opportunity to run for office.
- Clean Elections has already been successful in reducing the influence of big money special interests in Arizona's political system.
- For 2005-2006, Clean Elections winners hold 10 of the 11 statewide offices (all except Superintendent of Public Instruction), 35 of 60 House Seats and 7 of 30 Senate seats.
- A recent survey suggest that Clean Elections is more popular now than in 1998 when it was first passed by the voters of Arizona.
- Clean Elections helps candidates talk about the issues with their constituents, and not spend their time fundraising.

********************

It's critical that you contact members of the Senate Judiciary Committee before lunchtime on Monday. The meeting starts at 1:30 p.m.

Please call or write committee members and urge them to vote NO on SCR 1036 and save our Clean Elections system. Listed below are the members of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Please e-mail, call or fax them urging him/her to vote NO! If you live in any of the districts the members of the Senate Judiciary Committee represent, it makes a HUGE difference, if you start your e-mail with "I am a resident of District ...."
