Get Together Update - PLEASE READ
Edited on Mon Aug-22-05 03:56 PM by lady lib
It's great that we're getting responses and I'm really excited about meeting all of you! Some of you have suggested that we do a family get together, maybe a picnic in the park type event. I think that would be relaxed and enjoyable and FUN.

How about a picnic at Scottsdale's McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park? The park is BEAUTIFUL and has train and carousel rides for the kids, a playground, plenty of grassy areas for families to spread out and play frisbee, etc., and reservable ramadas. The only catch is that I need to know NOW if this is what we want to do because almost all of the ramadas have been reserved. In fact, the only ones available are on:
Sat 9/17
Sun 9/18
Sun 9/25
There are NONE available for October at this time.
I was warned to make a reservation within the next two days or these would be gone as well.

NOTE**If you don't mind skipping the ramada, we could make use of the grassy areas for picnics, use the free-standing grills that are available to everyone, or you could bring your own grills/table/chairs/blanket. If we skipped the ramada, we would obviously have a lot more flexibility in scheduling and could plan for a weekend in early October when the weather would be great.

One more note - they're having a "Railfair" Oct 8 & 9.

1. Location works for us.
Date preference in order - 9/25, 9/18, 9/17. Sunday works better than Saturday.

Other than the 8th or 9th, October works too, even if the ramadas aren't available - we prefer it cooler if we're going to be outside anyway. :-)

Thanks for checking into this, lady lib. :hi:

locally?

6. Eeek--driving at night for me is a risk, I'm afraid, so I doubt
I will make it to the planning meetings (also why I often am unable to attend otyher meetings).

Whatever, wherever, I will be at the demonstrations and am already talking it up to my very progressive family. Even my 82 year old mom is VERY interested if her health can take it.

I trust you will keep us informed as always you do. This one I will make regardless unless I'm on my deathbed--that is a solemn promise!

You'll know me as the angry dark blonde with the fresh highlights; guarantee you will recognize me on sight.

Steer the cameras to me; I LOVE it.

3. Any of them are good for me at this point and I LOVE the park!
Ramadas are very tough to get, I know, so if you want this, I say go ahead.

Do we want to try for a liquor permit?

9. Well...
I don't know how to get a liquor permit. If you want me to get one, I'll be happy to do it. Just point me in the right direction because I've never gotten one before.

I guess my question for you is - what's more important - a ramada or good weather? I vote for weather - definitely.

10. I vote weather as well. Went to the Scottsdale Municode site
here: http://library6.municode.com/gateway.dll/AZ/arizona/1?f=templates&fn=default.htm&npusername=10075&nppassword=MCC&npac_credentialspresent=true&vid=default;

I can't seem to open the park rules portion for some reason.

I seem to recall from previous visits that they do require a permit for alcohol but I'm not certain.

At this point, an adults only thing is looking a bit more doable for most, but it'd be great still to do a picnic or some such thing.

I don't want to decide for the whole group--my kid can have a "dad" day. We're happily married, but dad should spend some more time with him, IMHO, since he frequently does biz travel in Europe and Asia!

And I think a Ramada would be nice and it makes it easier to locate us!
