Air America 1010 KXXT in Phoenix is accepting donations at their station
They are doing an impromptu 'telethon' of sorts for hurricane victims today until 9pm, and will take stuff all week at least. They need NEW STUFF ONLY for this first wave.

I believe their address is 2800 E 44th, South of Thomas. Somebody just brought them a big sign that says Hurricane Relief.

They really need baby stuff: wipes, diapers, FORMULA, baby toys

Also: New books, magazines, kids games, board games

Hair Products: shampoo, gel, makeup, ponytail holders, barrettes, etc (they said to keep in mind hair products that work well for african american hair)

Listen to KXXT 1010 am for more info. Bringing stuff to the Colluseum is not advised, according to the newspaper. KXXT will make trips daily (they've already filled a U-Haul!) or as often as necessary.

In a few weeks they will need gently used stuff, but for now, the Red Cross can only accept new for hygenic reasons.

Wooo hooo, we're going shopping!

1. From their website
There is some dire need out at the coliseum. All items must be new, with tags still attached (this is mandatory, for Red Cross safety reasons):

Socks of all sizes
Women’s and children’s underwear
Women’s sports bras
Oversized children’s clothing
Baby blankets
Diapers of all sizes
Feminine Hygiene Products
African-American Hair Care Products
Closed-toed shoes for children and women

We will be collecting these things at our studios starting 6am MONDAY
We are located at
2800 North 44th Street #100;
Phoenix, AZ 85008

As requested by our listeners we have provided a blog for people to communicate and share how they can offer help to the victims of Katrina and the on going problems in the gulf. Please see http://aapkatrina.blogspot.com.

3. Oops, Costco is closed so we went to Target.
It looked like a really good response when we went over to KXXT at 3:00 this afternoon. There were boxes and bags of new and used items stacked up in the parking lot and in the studio.

4. Update
They are doing pretty good on baby stuff now, but need:

--plus sized shorts (men and women) and other clothing
--underwear (mens larger sizes)
--men's belts
--shaving cream
--Large (D-size or bigger) bras -- they have received lots of the smaller sizes already
--Kids school supplies
--backpacks
--closeable (with a zipper or other way to secure it) overnight/duffle bags -- each person needs a bag to keep their new stuff in that can fit under their cot.

We went to the Dollar Store and got all KINDS of stuff, from toys to tampons. Brought it down to the station and they were so sweet. What a blast. Kids loved it, and they read our name on the radio which really tickled the kids.

They also had a sign-up if you want to help with this. They'll be doing this daily. I'm guessing you can sign up on the website.

We couldn't believe how much stuff was sitting there. It was awesome. Go Phoenix! And apparently Governor Janet was helping to unload the KXXT U-Haul at the shelter.
