Why are so many AZ Democrats backing Kyl?
Or is this article another part of the spin machine? I just ran across this today.

50 Democrats On List Backing Kyl

By Phil Riske
A list of Democrats supporting the reelection of Republican U.S. Senator Jon Kyl will continue to grow as the 2006 election grows closer, says a spokesman for the Kyl campaign.

On Sept. 14, Jamie Molera, former superintendent of public instruction and a consultant to the Kyl camp, released a list of nearly 50 elected Democrat officials, most of them from rural areas, who say they support Mr. Kyl in his bid for a third term.

Former state Democratic Party chairman Jim Pederson announced his run against Mr. Kyl on Sept. 14 in his hometown of Casa Grande.

Among the Democrats for Mr. Kyl, a press release stated, are sheriffs, mayors, county supervisors and Rep. Cheryl Chase, D-23.

“It never mattered to me that I was a Democrat. Jon Kyl reached out to work with me,” Ms. Chase said. Mr. Pederson “has no experience and is out of the mainstream of Arizona. His support for Ted Kennedy, John Kerry and Howard Dean shows that he is part of the liberal wing of the Democratic Party.”

1. That's a mystery. Kyl is a hard-core GOP tool.

2. I'd say Chase should immediately be replaced...
But given what she's saying, I doubt a real Democrat will win in her district.

6. That's a lot of it, and the Capitol Times has become RW of late.
The truth is that Kyl is worried this time. He's way too close to Bush in degrees of social and political ties.

4. A lot of rural AZ Democrats are DINOs
And this is a move by the Kyl campaign to paint Pederson as tied to "East Coast" liberals, which is the first line of defense for wingnuts in this state. . . . Basically, this means nothing. The election will probably be decided through television advertising.

5. Sounds like Ms. Chase doesn't know which Party she represents.
Her Republican opponent could make a strong case tosay, why vote for a DINO when you can have me in this seat?

7. Pedersen has the money and the popularity to beat Kyl--seriously.
Pedersen isn't my first choice, but he's got the stuff to pull it off.

If we keep pushing the Kyl=Bush meme at the grassroots, Vyl Kyl is in deep trouble.

9. Fuck, man, when are the people we elect going to start acting like members
of our party? This is Campbell-Simplot all over again, and that ended just a couple weeks ago.

No wonder we keep losing in this state, when so many people turn their backs on us once they're done needing our help getting them where they are.

The party better be quick to hype Slade Mead.

Fuck... this is a heavy burn coming right after all those dems backed Simplot. Sometimes I wonder why I even bother, I'm sure a good number of idiots in this state would join the Confederate or Constitution parties if they had ballot access.

12. The fight against Kyl has only just begun!
Just wait.

If Ms Chase wants to change parties, don't let the door hit her in the ass on the way out.
