Republican gubernatorial candidates criticize Democratic Gov. Janet Napolitano's record on subjects ranging from immigration and taxes to education and forest health.

Gary Tupper and Mike Harris, both of whom have children, separately cited Napolitano's marital status - she's single - and the fact that she hasn't had children when answering questions during a Thursday evening forum sponsored by several Republican groups.

Later, when answering a question about a proposed ballot measure on marriage, Harris voiced his support for the initiative and then raised Napolitano's background.
"She's never been married. She's never had children. I don't think she ever will," he said of Napolitano, who has so far declined to take a position on the marriage amendment.

I wonder how many married Republicans have cheated on their spouses with members of the same sex, or molested children.

I wonder if sooner or later they'll question how well she can govern because she's short.

And note: Harris and Tupper, the "who's that?" twins of the Rep primary were the ones who floated the innuendo. That way, if there's a backlash it doesn't reach the two frontrunners.

I think they are trying to couch their bigotry in a "how can she represent the best interests of Arizona's families if she doesn't have one herself?" or something like that.

If it works, I can imagine the 2010 campaign - "Who better to deal with sex offenders - Ken Bennett for Governor" or "Representing Arizona's Telecommuters - David Petersen"...the list goes on...

Of course, this could just be an exhibition of the Republican obsession with Democrats' genitals.
