Salette Latas has a few things to say about Walter Reed
Edited on Thu Mar-08-07 08:49 PM by Fridays Child
Maybe this thread will do better in the Arizona forum. It died a cruel death in GD. Former congressional candidate, Jeff Latas, and his wife, Salette, are remarkable Americans. And Salette's experience as a kin caretaker of her own son, when he came back from Iraq, is a story worth reading.

Unsung heroes of Walter Reed: kin caretakers

I spent two weeks at Walter Reed in November 2005, after my son was medically evacuated from Iraq.

My husband had already been to the hospital and had tried to prepare me for what I was about to see.

Our son's immune system was compromised, and he needed to be in a sterile environment, to the point of having no fresh vegetables in the room.

My husband had told me our son's room was filthy. Bloody bandages were everywhere, the door was often ajar, and fresh lettuce was on my son's lunch tray.

Still, I was not prepared for what I found.

1. Army Secretary Francis J. Harvey said, "We let the soldiers down."
"Army Secretary Francis J. Harvey said, "We let the soldiers down."
They let the soldiers' families down, too."

Thanks for the link, Fridays Child.

3. You're most welcome.
Salette is an awesome lady. I believe that she's running for a seat on the Oro Valley town council. I don't live there but I certainly support her.

:)

2. This is an outrage!
How dare the military treat our children this way?

I am horrified, and sickened!

My anger knows no bounds........

Heads must, and I trust, will, roll.....

4. Yes, it is an outrage.
In this case, Jeff Latas, a Gulf War vet, and his wife, Salette, saw their son volunteer for military service, only to return from Iraq when he suffered a relapse of a very serious blood disorder. In the midst of running her husband's congressional campaign, Salette took primary responsibility for her son's care at Walter Reed. Now she's running for a seat on the town council of Oro Valley, a suburban community adjacent to Tucson. She's an amazing person and I'm glad she's on our side.

5. Simply disgusting
How anyone could have let this go on for years simply boggles the mind.

6. I know that there are many witnesses to the horrors.
This is just one of tens of thousands.

Let me say it again:

Tens of Thousands

make it stop, please.

:prayer:
