A wildfire started Friday in the Baboquivari Mountains southwest of Tucson, officials said.
The Solano Fire is burning about 7 miles south of Kitt Peak and is estimated at 130 acres,
said Cliff Pearlberg, a spokesman with the Arizona State Forester’s Office.
Authorities with the Tohono O’odham Nation, the State Forestry Department and
Bureau of Land Management are coordinating the fire fighting
The fire is in steep and rugged terrain and winds in the area are gusting to 35 mph,
Pearlberg said. The difficult conditions could lead to further growth for the fire
tonight and Saturday.
Three heavy air tankers, four single-engine air tankers and two helicopters are
assigned to the fire, along with five 20-person firefighter crews.
