Dear Friends,
Last week, John Shadegg voted against equal pay for women. He opposed the Paycheck Fairness Act, a bill that would create a training program to help women strengthen their negotiation skills and enforce equal pay laws for federal contractors.
When women do well in school, get good jobs and work hard, they better receive the same compensation as men who do the same job. This vote is more than just an example of Shadegg’s extremism on issues impacting women in our society. It’s disgraceful and in my mind, it disqualifies him from continuing to serve as our Congressman.
My wife Tammy and I have seven children, and we both strongly support women in the workplace. We also support the right of women and their doctors to make medical decisions without the interference of the government. I also agree with everyone, regardless of party, who wants to reduce the incidence of abortion and to care for all our children. I support the Prevention First Act, which aims to expand access to preventative health care to help reduce unintended pregnancies, the number of abortions, and the spread of STDs, and improve women’s access to health care.
But Shadegg boasts a long voting history of anti-women extremism. Shadegg consistently votes against contraceptives and birth control. Just last year, he voted against allowing Non-Governmental Organizations to receive donated contraceptives, which would prevent STDs. On Saturday, statistics from the CDC showed the number of new HIV infections occurring nationally each year is 40 percent higher than previously estimated.
Shadegg's extreme ideology does not stop there. He has an atrocious record when it comes to women who serve in our military. He voted to send women in uniform to war, but then voted to deny abortion services to military service women who are victims of rape, even if they paid for it themselves.
We can’t endure more of Shadegg policies for women. That’s one more reason why I’m running for Congress. It’s time to elect new leadership, and the time for that change is now.
Can you forward this email to at least four friends? We need to make sure everyone knows about Shadegg’s disgraceful record on issues impacting women.
Thanks for your support,
