vote "No" on Proposition 105, which will take away your ability to protect animals in Arizona.
Thanks to your help in 2006, Arizona voters overwhelmingly approved Proposition 204 by a landslide vote of 62 percent to 38 percent to provide more humane treatment of farm animals. This common-sense measure requires industrial factory farms in Arizona to phase out the cruel confinement of calves and pigs in small cages where they don’t even have enough room to turn around and stretch their limbs.
However, this initiative could not have passed if Proposition 105, deceptively called the “Majority Rules” initiative, had been in place.
If Prop 105 passes in November, any future ballot initiative would need more than just a majority of votes cast, but a majority of all registered voters -- regardless of whether people show up to the polls or not. People who choose not to vote or simply don’t make it to the polls, should not be considered automatic "No" votes.
Prop 105 is a cynical and underhanded power grab by special interest groups and industry lobbyists who want to prevent Arizona voters from exercising their rights to direct democracy. It is a de facto ban on the ballot initiative process, and will take away the rights of Arizona voters to protect animals through the initiative process.
Protect your voting rights by voting "No" on Proposition 105 in November. And please be sure to share this message with your friends and family in Arizona.
Thank you for all you do for animals.
Sincerely,
Mike Markarian Executive Vice President The Humane Society of the United States
