Here's some more crap coming out of the Brewer administration -
9000 people were laid off at the Dept of Economic Security.
This is the agency that oversees
*Food Stamps
*Unemployment claims
*Child Protective Services

WTF are they thinking????:grr:
This is the agency that is probably the busiest right now. And child protective services? Think about that. Think about the parents that have lost their jobs - fighting to stay in their homes.
You really think they are going to have the necessary patience needed with children while they are under that stress?

And that's not it -
They are trying to do away with needing 60 votes to pass legislation.

Az House of Reps:
11 D 18 R
AZ Senate:
21 D 35 R

You know all those bills Napolitano vetoed? Here we go.

I need to figure out a way to get more involved. This is just sickening.

2. 9,000 told they must take up to 9 days off without pay , not laid off.
"The only DES program that will not be affected is the
unemployment-insurance section, Barker said,
because the salaries of those workers are paid entirely
with federal dollars."

I share your anger at what is being done.

4. You're right - I didn't read the whole article thru.
I read the headline, got mad.
Then read the first page of the article, and only skimmed the second page.

Whew!!!!

8. DES to layoff 620 workers
http://www.azcentral.com/news//articles/2009/02/14/20090214DES0214.html

A day after announcing massive furloughs, officials with the Department of Economic Security said Friday that it will lay off 620 people as part of program cuts totaling more than $100 million.

The cuts affect virtually every program the department oversees, including deep cuts to Child Protective Services, jobs programs, child-support enforcement and homeless shelters. More layoffs probably will be announced next week, spokeswoman Liz Barker said. The department employs about 10,500 people.

7. All of ASU (except those on grants)
are having to take between 9 and 15 days off without pay (furlough). Its happening all over the country. There is even a facebook group "What I did on my Furlough" (granted, 4 of the 6 group members are ASU staff but still ...).

I'm really hoping that this finally pisses off enough people that some of the f**king you-know-whats in the AZ Legislature will finally be replaced with someone a LITTLE less extremely right wing.
