Yesterday, the Chairman of the Arizona Republican Party, Randy Pullen, unleashed an attack on Jim Pederson for creating www.standupforarizona.com -
http://westernmail.lyris.net/t/8854/1746947/43/0/ a website where regular Arizonans can be heard on issues like the budget, education, jobs or cuts to Child Protective Services.
Chairman Pullen reached back into the playbook archives when he said Jim was proposing a "Democratic tax and spend plan" and compared him to former Governor Janet Napolitano!
It is concerning to me that the Republican attack came on the very day that Governor Brewer was holding a budget hearing that seemed like a theatrical performance - the people who testified were personally invited by the Governor and were among the few that supported her agenda. They were prepped with questions in advance that the Governor would ask, and were requested to stick to the key talking points about why they preferred the Governor's 5-point plan over alternative proposals.
I am uncomfortable with the devastating impact the Governor's plan will have on education in 2011 and 2012, but this also seems to be the type of dialogue that Mr. Pullen would like to stymie while providing only one vision for the future of Arizona. There is more than one viewpoint.
Attacks like Randy Pullen's are what you see when people begin to stand up, demanding to have a voice in the decision-making process. People like Pullen are hoping that the attack - only 2 weeks into the website's existence - will put a chill on anyone else who's even thinking about speaking up.

And more from Jim
I received the below email from a concerned Arizonan via my website, www.standupforarizona.com.
http://westernmail.lyris.net/t/9311/1798638/43/0/Helen’s is a heart-breaking story, and one that is echoed all across our state.
What is truly sad is that Governor Brewer did not understand that while cutting jobs like Helen’s may have saved $9 million up front, it cost the state $174 million in uncollected revenues. The Governor even admitted that these cuts may need to be readdressed.
Please visit www.standupforarizona.com and make a video blog telling your representatives at the State Capitol what is on your mind. Call on them to stay focused on balancing the budget responsibly, giving Arizona a fighting chance of emerging from the current crisis as strong as it has ever been.
We will be distributing copies of all posted video blogs to our legislators and Governor next week. We will make sure they hear your voice.
Jim
