Maricopa County officials have spent at least $1.1 million over the past 11 months suing each other. And those legal costs are climbing, according to figures released Monday by the Office of Management and Budget.
Although some of the cases seem legit, the whole County Treasurer shit storm, questions remain as to why the County Attorney Thomas needs to sue to be on a case to sue the Board?
The grand jury proceeding into the county’s court tower project cost the Board of Supervisors $29,000 to represent itself. The grand jury was convened by the County Attorney’s Office; it is unknown how much money that office spent on the case. Superior Court Presiding Criminal Judge Gary Donahoe disqualified Thomas from the case because his office had counseled the supervisors on the project. The case was transferred to Yavapai County. Thomas has petitioned the Arizona Supreme Court to reconsider the lower-court judge’s decision to remove him from the investigation.
In fact, according to this article, the fab duo, Thomas and Arpaio raised a $814,000 bill fighting the Board. Add that onto the $400,000 bus Arpaio just bought, and it equates to why do we keep reelecting this water bag? geez.
