5. Could You Elaborate?
Are you implying that Tucson ranks "second" to Phoenix somehow? True, Phoenix boasts more people, more freeways, more golf courses and more grassy lawns. And yeah, they waste more water and elect more troglodytes. But I have yet to hear any Tucsonan lament, "God! If only I could move to Phoenix!"

Or maybe your intent was just the opposite of my interpretation. After all it was Phoenix that ranked lower than Tucson. Are you saying it's the Maricopastanians who are suffering from "Second City-itis"? Oh, the poor BABIES!

6. Second city-itis is the phenomenon in which
people who live in a second city of a state or region obsess about comparing themselves and their city to the larger city. People who live in Phoenix never think about Tucson - they hardly know it exists - but Tucsonians - as the current post shows- do get off on comparing themselves, always favorably, to the denizens of the larger city. In Philadelphia, in earlier years when it was the second city to New York in the Northeast, Philly's news media was constantly carrying stories like "Philly Airport Called Superior to New York's" etc and Philadelphians themselves were constantly making the same kind of comparisons. New Yorkers, by contrast, could, and did,go through a whole life without ever sparing a thought to Philadelphia.

7. Not Really A Fair Comparison
Unlike your Philly/New York example, Phoenix is, unfortunately, our state capital. If "People who live in Phoenix never think about Tucson - they hardly know it exists...", such unwarranted snobbishness invites and deserves our ridicule. Phoenicians, apparently, live under the illusion that Biggest=Best. If Tucsonans "..get off on comparing themselves, always favorably..." to Phoenix, it's only because Phoenix has made itself such an easy target. And if Phoenicians want respect, they might begin by occasionally "sparing a thought" to the rest of the state.

9. I Agree.
And thank you for your courageous admission that "People who live in Phoenix never think....", and never, "..(spare) a thought....". It certainly explains why Phoenix ranks where it does. You've helped validate the accuracy and credibility of the study's conclusions........
