Do Arizona Democrats Have A Good US Senate Candidate This Year?

Howdy!

I've noticed that JD Hayworth is challenging John McCain in the Arizona Republican Senate primary this year and I've read that there's a fair chance that the Arizona Republican Party's right wing might send McCain packing.

As an out-of-stater, I'm curious. Do Arizona Democrats have a good, viable US senate prospect who can not only thrill the hearts of Arizona progressives, but charm enough of the rest of Arizona's electorate to flip John McCain's Senate seat from Republican Red to Democratic Blue?

This could be the opportunity of a lifetime--if the good guys don't find a way to blow it.

In this state of neoLibertarians and those of a certain conservative religion, Republican moderates and Democrats are rarities. There's a reason why Arizona is in a race to the bottom in jobs, education, etc.

I guess he would. I've seen Rodney Glassman speak down in Tucson and he was actually quite charasmatic and articulate. On his website it says he's collecting $20 contributions to try and get a ton for his exploratory campaign. Pretty cool idea compared to McCain who accepts tons of money from special interests. Sounds like REAL clean elections.

7. If McCain Loses the Republican Primary, There Would Be...

If John McCain loses the Republican primary this year, there would be something wrong with his political career--if he ran again in November, he'd have to do it as an independent, because Hayworth would have the Arizona Republican Party's nomination.

From what I can tell, a lot of AZ Republicans aren't happy with McCain, because they don't think he's reactionary ENOUGH, so McCain might lose. That's why I'm asking politically-active Arizona Democrats if they might have a senatorial candidate capable of beating Hayworth this autumn.

The responses I'm getting to my inquiry here would make Cheech and Chong look alert and prepared as Rachel Maddow at her sharpest and best-prepared. Looks like Hayworth would get elected as a shoo-in.

which still hasn't forgiven Obama for that. It's not like AZ has so many Dem's we can easily spare one. And they had to know that the first thing the legislature would do would be to pass the bills that Janet had been vetoing. I really felt like Obama and the Dem's threw AZ under the bus.

39. Right after Obama won he was in Mesa at Dobson High School to talk about healthcare. There were 3

groups of people with signs outside.

One group was the Impeach the illegal president crowd.
The second group was the Obama supporters.
The third was a group of people with signs that said things like 'how could you take Janet away from us?' 'Az needs Janet more than you'. I'm still upset about it too. None of this would be happening right now. But then again - she could of said no, but you can't blame her. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity for her.

I can't help but wonder what is going thru her head as she reads about everything that is going on in AZ and how we continue to be in the news every day.

He sounds quite capable, well rounded, good background and experience...

I am from Arizona (Tucson) and I have been very bummed that we haven't had a good Democratic Candidate for Senate, when it seems like people ought to be really getting tired of McCain (to say nothing of Kyl).

John Dougherty has been an investigative journalist for 25 years and helped bring the Keating Five scandal to light. Dougherty isn't very well known as a candidate at this time, but I heard him on the radio and was very impressed. I would love to see him debate McCain. Glassman has too much baggage, and is just another politician.

Dougherty is a very exciting candidate. Take a look at his website:

I am going to vote for him in the primary. I would love it if he won. He has the right temperment to deal with McCain. He won't let McCain get away with his bullcrap.

That said - I think Rodney is going to win. He's more of a shiny object than Dougherty.

But if Dougherty did win - could you imagine? He could be like another Grayson. Az needs real change so bad.

It has an unflattering cartoon picture of McCain wearing flip-flops.

It says this.
