The Curious Case of Raul Grijalva

While I understand I'm one of the few holdouts in the "Demcorats will keep control of both houses" camp, Politico's story this morning about Democratic Rep. Raul Grijalva being in trouble in Arizona 07 (where he won by 30% two years ago) both amuses and scares the crap out of me.

On the one hand, the story shows a lot of what's wrong with the current state of political reporting - a narrative-setting "news" story based on hearsay and two INCREDIBLY dubious polls.

On the other, IF Grijalva is in trouble, than so are almost all of my projections for this year. And, more importantly, if Grijalva is in trouble, than there's almost literally no Democrat nationwide that can consider themselves truly "safe."

I guess I'm hoping someone will pat my head and reassure me everything's going to be OK.

1. I will pat your head! There is NO way Grijalva is going to lose - and -

I had msnbc on this morning, on one of the shows they interviewed a young, hispanic male from ASU. He has been on a mission to register Latinos to vote and said he has signed up over 100 new voters. I know that most likely won't effect Grijalva's district - BUT I really feel that the Latino community in Az will come out to vote in November, and they're not going to be voting for the repugs.

Besides, Grijalva is the head of the Progressive Caucus in the House, why would any registered Dem vote against him?

2. It was in the paper today - I guess the voters in his district are pissed off about him calling for

boycotts. Still, his district is largely Hispanic, and has a Dem majority - I'm sure he will pull this off.
