My wife and I and my two dogs are moving from San Jose, Ca. to Tucson in the middle of December. We have already rented a house and will be there for 14 or 15 months. I have rented my house in S.J. to our grandson for the duration and already rented a truck. We figured that the best way to hook up with like minded people is to get involved in groups of people with similar perspectives so I signed up with D.L. as a start. We will be looking to hook up with the local progressives and I figured this might be a good place to ask.
I'm frankly astonished at the difference in housing costs. My little 1,100 Sq ft. condo in S.J. costs me about $2,000.00 a month to live in. $450.00 of that is H.O.A. fees. No garage, no garden, no place to put a BBQ, no nothing! The house we rented in Tucson is 3,800 Sq.Ft. with a three car garage, a kitchen bigger than my current master suite, and a master suite separate from the rest of the house that opens out to the pool and spa. It is at the base of what you call "Twin Peaks" and the monthly nut is $1,400 which includes the pool and spa maintenance and the H.O.A. fees. We are so excited that we have trouble sleeping but we are aware that, unlike our neighborhood, many folks will not share our political viewpoint. We already met a couple of what I assume to be teabaggers across the street (although my wife counsels me to reserve judgment)who informed us how proud they were that, with the exception of the family we were renting from, they were very proud that the neighborhood was all "Caucasian". Well, my wife and I also happen to be of Northern European, Anglo Saxon decent but I love our current neighborhood where we happen to be in the minority.
It's going to be an adventure! Anyway, If there are any DUers that would like to meet, we would welcome interaction with like minded folks.
