Can Kerry come from behind again?
Candidate has 5 weeks to sway Arizona, U.S.

Jon Kamman
The Arizona Republic

<snip>Interviews with political operatives, pollsters and average voters suggest that to have a chance, Kerry must connect better with Arizonans on both a personal and policy level; score big in the three debates that begin Thursday; crystallize his sometimes vague or wavering positions on the war in Iraq; and win the faith, especially of women, that he will protect the homeland.

Most important, poll numbers indicate, he must reverse a defection of Democrats to Bush, attract a strong majority of independents who are now evenly split and woo moderate Republicans troubled by the rightist tilt their party demonstrated in the state primary this month.

All the while, in the words of admirer Sharon Moeller, 40, a student and consultant in Apache Junction, Kerry must "keep being the proud man that he is and keep fighting for his beliefs."

The Bush-Cheney campaign, fairly or not, has implanted in many voters' minds an image of Kerry as too elitist for Arizona, not a man of the people. Some observers think he played the Vietnam card too heavily. Others say he's not mean enough, or waited too long, to stand up to Bush-Cheney assaults. Critics contend that he is inconsistent on policies and too liberal for a state that isn't easily dissuaded from conservatism.<snip>

1. "...deflection of Democrats to Bush....."
Someone has been hitting the kool-ade. If there is any deflection it is the Republicans to Kerry. This is the typical tactics of the pollsters working for Bush and the lazy mediawhores re-gurgitate it verbatim.

4. Thank you. No Dems to Bush that I'm aware of
And I'm phoning, canvassing, and registering voters all the time.

2. I don't think Kerry has ever been "behind"
Despite what the media says about this being "* country", I think our repug media is in for a big surprise when our ten electoral votes go for Kerry

3. My folks in boonieville, AZ say that several neighbors have Kerry signs
up in their yard. Since my parents are new to the state, they were originally afraid to start the trend, thinking that someone might firebomb their house.

Now they have a sign up, too. Power in numbers!
