AB 1737, Leland Yee, D Amended on June 6, 2005
This bill would require that on or before December 1, 2005, the
Commission on Health and Safety and Workers' Compensation, in
consultation with the Department of Industrial Relations, provide a
report to the Legislature that evaluates the extent to which Medi-Cal
payments may be covering medical treatment costs that are the
responsibility of the workers' compensation system.

CHARTER SCHOOLS

SB 319, Migden, Amended on June 6, 2005

This bill, instead, would subject to different funding provisions, a charter school in a nonbasic aid unified school district that was operational and converted to charter status before January 1, 2005, or that is receiving startup funding, and that would otherwise be subject to the above provisions of existing law.

This bill would require, for the period of time during which the

Superintendent is assuming the legal rights, duties, and powers of

the governing board and has appointed an administrator to act on his

or her behalf, the Superintendent to annually appear with the

administrator at a regularly scheduled meeting of the governing board

in order to provide an update on the reports and plans described above.

CALIFORNIA COMPASSIONATE CHOICES ACT

This bill would enact the California Compassionate Choices Act,
which would authorize an adult who meets certain qualifications, and
who has been determined by his or her attending physician to be
suffering from a terminal disease, as defined, to make a request for
medication for the purpose of ending his or her life in a humane and
dignified manner.

SEXUALLY VIOLENT PREDATORS

SB 723, Denham, Amended on June 6, 2005

This bill would, notwithstanding any provision of law, prohibit
sexually violent predators released under the conditional release
program from being placed within 1/4 mile of any public or private
school providing instruction in kindergarten or any of grades 1 to
12, inclusive, if the person has been convicted of certain offenses or the court finds that the person has a history of improper sexual conduct with children.
