1. I stay at the Sandman
My daughter lives there and I used to for 20 years. Its usually in the 80's in the summer 90's on hot days.

Its a very progressive town and yuppie...great restaurants. Because of the wine tourism prices of hotels went way up but the Sandman is a 3 diamond place with pool thats just fine and not bad price.

They redid the downtown part years ago so thats a pretty cool area to hang out in.

2. Thank you, marlakay! Dh doesn't know yet if he will be able
to go (due to work). As an IR couple, I like to research--but thus far, we haven't had ANY problems in Northern California. Sadly, more here where we live in southern California...

Thanks again,
Bliss:hi:

3. Weather is usually resonable
Don't know people very much... I'm over the hill in the Napa Valley. Should be affordable places to stay. Check the Internet or the Auto Club. It's handy to SF, Sonoma, Napa Valley and Mendocino. Usually an airporter from SF to SR. Check it out. Better than driving from SF to SR. Rent a car when you get to SR.

PM me when it gets closer and you want more details of whatever.

through out the city, it has many. Luther Burbank's home is a must. It will be hot in the day, cooler ,sometimes much cooler, at night.Always the chance of a heavy fog.

8. Traffic is horrible
It's fun to head out the Russian River to the coast. Also, you can head into the farming areas and taste cheese and fruit.

10. Hi from a Santa Rosa citizen :)
Santa Rosa is very nice, but of course I'm biased. In August, expect that temps will likely be pretty warm, in the 90's or if we are having a heat wave, over 100 during the day. However, we usually get a break in the evenings, with a cool breeze and sometimes fog rolling in from the coast.

As to affordable places to stay, I'm not really sure. There are definitely lots of hotels/motels and bed and breakfast places. Healdsburg (about 10 miles north of Santa Rosa) is very pricey, but hopefully you can find a reasonably priced hotel in the area. One tip: If the address of the hotel is on Santa Rosa Avenue, probably best to keep looking. That is still a mixed business/residential/red light thoroughfare.

The local newspaper can be found online at www.pressdemocrat.com and that will give you an idea of some events that might be taking place around the time of your visit. For example, the Sonoma County Repertory Theater is putting on The Complete Works of Wm Shakespeare (abridged) the week-end of August 6th, in Sebastopol.

Also, every weekend through the summer there is a blues and jazz music series in Helen Putnam Plaza in Petaluma. Admission is free. Petaluma is a neat little town to wander through as well, with lots of antique shops, art boutiques, wonderful restaurants, etc.

Hope you get to visit Sonoma County!
