NBCSandiego.com poll - Are you sad or happy that Mayor Murphy's leaving?
A lot of happy people measured there so far, perhaps we can make it more!

Article talks about how Murphy attributes the battle over the recounts with Donna Frye as a big factor towards him resigning...

2. I met Dick Murphy
He was very nice, and extremely book-smart. He absolutely sucked at politics and administration though - and I was thinking that as I spoke to him.

4. In a way, one could almost say you are happy "FOR HIM"....
That he's out of the Rethuglican empire and perhaps can go back to being a decent person instead of having to deal with these schmucks that were using him for their ends...

I never thought of Murphy as one of the evil entities of the Republicans like I feel we have an abundance of in other places today. I did think, like you, that he was a horrible administrator, either by design or through lack of a sense of responsibility to do so.

In any case, even though the pension mess might have not have been his creation and had a lot of his hands in it, it was his *responsibility* to have had the proper oversight of it and never to have let it got out of control like it did. THAT, I blame him for. I do think there are some worse folks (either other members of the pension board, or those donating to people's campaigns, etc.) that have corrupted this city to the sorry state that it is right now. Those people we're going to have to "kick out" (and in some cases throw in jail), as opposed to Murphy, who had the sensibility to know (at least at SOME point) when it was time to leave. Should have left earlier (or not fought as hard against the recount) when it happened earlier, but somehow I think it was his contributors that wanted to fight that harder than he did, not wanting Donna Frye in to "clean things up" at their expense!
