1. I vote for Big Basin

http://www.bigbasin.org/fees.html

$224 for a group campsite holding 50 people would be about $5 each.

Could reserve 2 group campsites together for double that if enough people.

Sequoia has hot showers.

8. A Solar Shower Can Give You a Hot Shower Anywhere
Just fill it up and leave it out in the sun for a bit.

I'm up for a campout.

BTW, any of you going to Burning Man?

10. I'm big on Big Basin, too
I'd vote in the poll, but my dinosaur computer and browser doesn't allow me to do so. Amazing, I've never visited Big Basin...

And for what it's worth, showers really are a plus.

slutticus, if you don't like showers, don't take one, but please pitch your tent downwind from ours! ;)

5. Well, where you go depends on the time of year.
And how much of the amenities you are willing to trade for solitude.
I'm guessing you like real toilets and maybe showers and a snack shop
or access to town.

I offer a few suggestions along that line:

Mattole river beach in Humboldt County near Petrolia is $5 a night last time I checked, excellent in June, July, August, but windy.

El Capitan, Refugio, and Gaviota State Beaches near Santa Barbara are all great anytime, as is Jalama Beach County Park. Jalama Beach is famous for being windy. I would recommend May or June.

In the Winter you should try Joshua Tree or Death Valley.

9. Most likely. It's my sort of thing.
I have a prior commitment Sept. 9-11, but outside those dates, yes.
