Can a governor be impeached?

The public has finally caught on to this Arnold scam here in California, but if we let the guy finish out his term in peace, the GOP will try to foist him off on the rest of the country.

... much as they would like to try. He's not a native-born citizen, and Ahnuld will be long dead before the GOP succeeds in getting a Constitutional amendment passed making it possible for foreign-born citizens to run for President.

12. There were strong rummors that he might have run for Senate....

in 2006. GOP dreamed of the ready and instant exposure that Arnie, the super star, could have provided espousing white-wing talking points. That possibility is now gone. Hoot, he'd lose in an uncontested race for dog catcher, today.

5. I just feel sorry for Davis

This whole thing was orchestrad against him . Sure he did alot of things wrong but he had an election a few months prior. I guess Arnie showed his repub colors.

But I think the governor of Arizona was impeached and removed from office back in the '80's. And here in Alabama, the idiot Guy Hunt was removed from office after being convicted of crimes, but I don't think it was through an impeachment process.

7. alternative: tell Arnold to smile, sign what's put in front of him...

stop doing what Karl Rove tells him, and we won't ask AG to pursue criminal charges against him for the laws he broke or ignored while in office. He can go back to Hollywood and have a nice career instead of working on his biceps at club fed.

vacancy occurs in the office of Governor.

The Lieutenant Governor shall act as Governor during the impeachment, absence from the State, or other temporary disability of the Governor or of a Governor-elect who fails to take office.

The Legislature shall provide an order of precedence after the lieutenant Governor for succession to the office of Governor and for
the temporary exercise of the Governor's functions.

The Supreme Court has exclusive jurisdiction to determine all questions arising under this section.

Standing to raise questions of vacancy or temporary disability is vested exclusively in a body provided by statute.

SEC. 18. (a) The Assembly has the sole power of impeachment. Impeachments shall be tried by the Senate. A person may not be convicted unless, by rollcall vote entered in the journal, two thirds
of the membership of the Senate concurs.

(b) State officers elected on a statewide basis, members of the State Board of Equalization, and judges of state courts are subject to impeachment for misconduct in office. Judgment may extend only to removal from office and disqualification to hold any office under the State, but the person convicted or acquitted remains subject to criminal punishment according to law.

9. Not sure I agree

Unless he rebounds in the polls, which is possible, though not likley--look at what happened to Pete Wilson in 1994. But otherwise, a Republican governor with a 34% approval rating, who is constitutionally ineligible to be president or vice-president, ain't going nowhere. There are too many other Republicans lined up for the nomination in 2008. The party is not about to throw its weight behind this lame duck and a change in the constitution, special just for him.

My advice is to stay focused on 2006, not to take his low numbers for granted, and get behind a good candidate.

11. Orrin Hatch proposed amending the Constitution BEFORE Arnold was...

inaugurated.

He might not be ready by 2008, but they will try to run him in 2012.

Also, do you notice the Constitution slowing down the right much so far?
