Governor Plans to Be There for Bush
Despite political risks, Schwarzenegger will attend the GOP convention, aides say

By Peter Nicholas, Times Staff Writer

SACRAMENTO — Though some political advisors would prefer he stay home, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is planning to reintroduce himself to a nation that knows him primarily as an entertainer when he shows up for the late summer Republican presidential convention in New York.

Schwarzenegger aides say he is committed to attending President Bush's nomination, an appearance that carries unusual complexities. If Schwarzenegger skips the four-day convention, he risks snubbing his party's nominee. If he goes, he could alienate California Democrats and independent voters who've embraced Schwarzenegger at the same time that polls show they want Bush defeated. That prospect becomes more real if the convention assumes a divisive tone.

1. That should be insulting to the Shrivers.
I watched a book event on CSPAN last night about the life of Sarge Shriver. He sounded like a decent man. I only caught the last 30 minutes or so but he started Head Start and helped get The Peace Corps. off the ground. Pretty liberal guy with liberal ideas.

I don't know who should be more ashamed of themeself, Maria for going along with this or Arnold for completely going against Maria's family. They are both being awfully damn disrespectful if you ask me.

2. The petrocons own the gropinator.
Of course he will do what his overlords tell him to, he's a good nazi.

California Democrats and Independents are pretty damned stupid if they have "embraced" this co-conspirator in the Cali energy scam.

3. Poor Arnie, between a rock and a hard place
Last I heard he wasn't going to campaign for bushie. I wonder if pressure was put on him to at least go to the convention. You know, like if you all need help there in California, you better do your duty as a republican.

Kennedy tributes are thorny for governor

http://www.sacbee.com/content/politics/story/9660680p-10584018c.html

While Republicans debate the appropriate role for Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger at their national convention this summer in New York, his advisers are considering another delicate question: How visible should he be in Boston the week of the Democratic National Convention?
Arguably one of the nation's most popular elected Republicans, California's celebrity freshman governor has no intention of attending the Democrats' convention itself.
But as the husband of a Kennedy, Schwarzenegger has been asked along with his wife, Maria Shriver, to attend several events in Boston, that same last week in July, honoring various members of the Massachusetts Democratic political dynasty.
