Attention: Absentee Voters: What I Got in the Mail Last Week . . .

a new application for permanent absentee voting status with this note:

"Dear Voter:

This notice is to inform you that your Permanent Absentee Voter status has been canceled because we did not receive your absentee ballot for the November 2, 2004 General Election. In accordance with Section 3017 the voter's name shall be deleted from the Permanent Absentee Voter's list."

This is odd because not only did I vote in the General Election, I remember contacting the registrar's office three times until I got confirmation that they received it.

I almost missed this mailing, and could have been puzzled by never receiving an absentee ballot for our special election, this year. This is Alameda County, California.

1. I got two notices just before the 2004 election telling me

that I was not registered to vote. The notices looked genuine to me, but two phone calls to the real office told me that I was, indeed, registered. Who knows if my vote was counted.

2. Did you get that confirmation in writing, or just by phone contact?

Does this mean that your vote was disappeared before it was counted?

3. Phone only. But I called them. The mail notices came from who knows?

Besides, as we've seen - Diebold overrode all other voting anyway.

I will post and advise if I get the same. I dropped my absentee ballot off at an Alameda County polling place back in November, and they had a container designated for absentee ballots.
