First human case of Nile Virus in San Diego.

SAN DIEGO – The county has confirmed its first human case of West Nile virus this year, although it is believed the man was infected while camping outside the region.

The San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency reported Friday a 47-year-old man was identified with the virus after blood he donated was screened and tested positive for West Nile.

He went camping some where else so the experts are saying he likely caught it there instead of San Diego which has a low population of vector insects and the county has an excellent vector control program. Still, sucks that it is hear and if they have it in the Sierras or where ever this fellow went then it won't be long until it is here.

1. I think there also may be many undiagnosed cases as well...

My sister felt strongly that she had a case of it around a year ago up in Northwest L.A. area. She hangs out a lot near her barn riding horses, where she might have gotten infected with an insect bite there. She felt she had all of the symptoms after studying it on the net, etc. but the doctor wouldn't diagnose it as West Nile Virus, even though she was VERY sick for a number of days.
