CA Rules Committee rejects air board nominee

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's nominee to head the state board that regulates air quality is in trouble after just six weeks on the job, with a key Senate committee voting against her confirmation Wednesday.

The Senate rules committee voted 3-1 to reject the nomination of Cindy Tuck, a longtime lobbyist for an industry-backed group that opposed several significant air quality laws, as chairwoman of the California Air Resources Board.

The vote came after a hearing in which environmental groups, including heavyweights such as the Sierra Club and the Natural Resources Defense Council, opposed the nomination, citing her lobbying record for the California Council for Environmental and Economic Balance.

1. Unfortunately..

Tools seem to be the only ones who ever get nominated to such key policy making positions. Either industry tools or extremist enviromentalist tools. I wish we could get more centrists into such key positions so that, unlike the industry tools, we can improve the enviroment and, unlike the eviromental extremist tools, we can also form economically feasable policies.

We need to consider both sides but all we ever get is one or the other and it's hurting us.
