The Senate rules committee voted 3-1 to reject the nomination of Cindy Tuck, a longtime lobbyist for an industry-backed group that opposed several significant air quality laws, as chairwoman of the California Air Resources Board.
The vote came after a hearing in which environmental groups, including heavyweights such as the Sierra Club and the Natural Resources Defense Council, opposed the nomination, citing her lobbying record for the California Council for Environmental and Economic Balance.
