Feinstein to Vote Against Roberts
Judiciary Committee Democrat Feinstein to Vote Against Roberts, As Nomination Gathers Steam

By JESSE J. HOLLAND Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON Sep 22, 2005 — Another Judiciary Committee Democrat Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California announced Thursday she would oppose Supreme Court nominee John Roberts as his nomination made its way to the full Senate.

Feinstein, the committee's only woman, said her vote was decided after Roberts refused to fully answer her and other Democrats' questions in his confirmation hearing last week.

"I knew as little about what Judge Roberts really thought about issues after the hearings as I did before the hearing. This makes it very hard for me," said Feinstein, an abortion rights supporter.

"I cannot in good conscious cast a 'yea' vote. I will cast a 'no' vote," she said.

1. bravo
I am not sure what her motives were, but regardless, she will get my vote in 2006 because of this

3. Abortion right may be her motive
As he would not answer any questions about the subject. NARAL and Planned Parenthood have consistently given her a 100% voting record.

2. Is there any hope that these no votes will matter? Any talk of a
filibuster?

4. There will probably not be enough no votes to sustain a fillibuster.
Leahy is a definite yes, and several other Democrats will likely join him.

5. I think her motive is reelection. I'm glad she is voting NO even though...
...it won't do any good. It's more symbolic.

It's the next nominee we really have to worry about anyway.

6. Her motive was likely Roe v. Wade
She 100% voting records from both Planned Parenthood and NARAL.

7. Oh I know she is 100% pro-choice but she can be a DINO sometimes
I am very happy she is voting no on this guy. She was a yes on the Iraq resolution though.

9. I firmly believe
that if her husband's corporation could make millions from abortion's being illegal, she'd vote yes in a second.

I haven't agreed with some of her votes lately, but this one is probably more important than the others. This is the Supreme Court! I knew Boxer would come through. I'm proud of my California Senators!:bounce:

15. Too bad her vote didn't make a
damn bit of difference. Obviously, Roberts was confirmed anyway.

If DINO had been the deciding vote, that would be different.

I guess her drop in the polls by 8 points finally woke her up a little.......too bad there is no impact!!
