San Diego March

First off let me take you back to those dark days of November, you remember them well... the Pretender stole the election... so some of us hardy souls got together one fine morning (A sunday) to hold a protest.

We were at most twenty of us... it was cold (yes even for San Diego) it was rainy, it was miserable, We marched... the three hours we had to... and then absconded to Starbucks to get something hot... to warm some of our old bones.

Today I went to a demo I heard from on the web. I had nothing to do with organizing or nothing like that. It was by Balboa Park in San Diego, and we had... 2000+ people... the police had a heavy presence, but that was because of the at most 20 freepers on the other side.

Oh it gets better, but in November it was fifty fifty, you know the idiots gong Bush won, get over it, were quite more than today. Today I'd say that in my judgment over 90% of the cars driving by were supporting the action.

the lesson of the story is... this is growing folks, and this needs to keep growing.

Oh and got some great bumper stickers and a bushville hat, and a true majority pen... and reconnected with some of those twenty hardy souls, I had not seen them in months... it was good to see them.

So it is not all over the MSM, (though the locals DID cover it), folks it was the same way in the early days... in the good ol' days... the historical record is quite clear on that.

Oh and 2000+ in San Diego, you people realize how good that is?

I was supposed to go but all my plans fell apart and I just couldn't make it. I've been on pins and needle all day wishing I could have gone. I agree that the tide is turning quickly. I wish I could have met you.

Boy, is my out-of-shape body aching today!

It was a super experience!

And everyone along the way supported us - except for one lady who looked like a mentally-ill homeless woman.

At least 2,000 there!

I was fine ... but if it had been a minute longer.

Need to practice going 1-1/2 miles.

The nine-year-old loved every minute of it.

We walked to the zoo afterwards, and met my sister. We went out to dinner, and she took us back to our car in Oceanside.

We had taken 'the Peace Train' from Oceanside (that was really fun) - we took over a car or two.

2. I was there

It was a great turn-out. 70% of the cars honked or gave some recognition, and very few gave dissaproval. The tides have changed around here. Today gave me a new sense of optimism, I am uplifted. I cannot wait until enough people want to do this that it happens every weekend with thousands upon thousands of protestors. Let's hope. See you there next time. Peace.

7. Perhaps "horn support" should be encouraged!

Perhaps a bit of activism is in order here. For those that can't make it to a march because of time commitments or for whatever other reason, but still support its purpose, perhaps we can actively recruit people to drive by and honk support for the troops to come home, etc. Perhaps all it would take is a few of us standing at some strategic corners with "Honk if you support ..." and get some cars to rhythmically honk going down the street to encourage others to do so. Perhaps it could continue for blocks, etc. after people leave an area as kind of a new form of "activism on the cheap"!

3. Sorry I missed it

I am in the desert, however and car travel is on rationing, (I'm saving miles for another trip) We generally have some kind of protest in both Palm Springs and Palm Desert( freeperland). Today I started tearing up my lawn(to save water). I usually report on them.

4. I was there yesterday...

Was also at the big anti-war rally here that happened around the time the war started too, where we marched on the naval station too...

The crowd maybe for this one was a bit bigger than the other one, but not by much. What I did notice as a big difference this time (as others have noted here too), is that first of all there weren't near as many counter protestors this time as there was last time, and secondly, there were A LOT more people driving cars honking in support of us driving by this time! I think that speaks loudly folks. Many people out there support us now in spirit, even if they don't have the time to be out on the streets with us.

If more larger protests are needed, and the war keeps getting worse, and things like our hurricanes keep getting worse, I think it's just a matter of time before we get more of these folks joining us. We need to probably face the fact that in this society today, with people having to slave at two to three jobs for some of them just to have their families survive, that we collectively don't have the free time we did back in days of Vietnam era either, when one person's job could perhaps support a family then. The haves vs. the have nots in those days were a lot closer in net worth. That is just one more big factor today in the difficulty of getting this administration out of office.
