Governor's ballot not faring well
http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2005/10/28/BAGOFFF6UL1.DTL

Support for Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's special election ballot measures remains weak, with none of them enjoying majority support despite millions spent in advertising by the governor, according to a new poll by the Public Policy Institute of California.

With just over a week to go before the election, 81 percent of voters said they are interested in the election, according to the poll, but the governor continues to face significant opposition from Democrats and independents.

whoo hoo!!!

4. but people need to get out and vote!
the fundies have a big issue in prop 73-the parental notification bill

they'll go out and vote in full force and they could be the difference between defeat and victory for Ahnuld's measures

11. If we can get 73 to be in the "toilet" so to speak
and look like a hopeless battle for them, perhaps that will keep enough of them from wanting to vote then too. I noticed that Aliance For California isn't campaigning on that issue (I guess they figure that issue is something they don't want to alienate some voters on), but I'd keep trying to get people separately to not vote for that to up the pre-election polls more and keep the fundies away from the ballot box. That should help everything else we want winning, including getting Donna Frye in as mayor and two city council seats with Dems here in San Diego.

16. The Alliance is focusing on 74,75,76
Those are their three. Arnold is focusing on 74-77. 77 is not a labor issue so the Alliance is staying out of that one. 73 and 78 are backed by the Republican party along with Arnold's 4. They oppose 79 and 80.

Planned parenthood is running the campaign against 73 and the Democrat party is against 73-78 and supports 79 and 80. Those are the battle lines that have been drawn and the teams that have been picked.

17. I asked Alliance for Califrnia rep about this too...
when she was talking to our Dem group on why they didn't take a position on 73. She was noting that they wanted to be neutral about it, probably thinking that there might be many Union and other supporters that might be pushed away if those walking for them also spoke against 73. Probably the same for others who are taking "no position" on this prop. That's why its even better for us as grass roots folks to try and talk it down where the opportunity presents itself where no "official" group is being represented, to soe the seeds of doubt about it and lower its overall numbers, but not to give these fundy groups any room to shoot down some of these other groups.

Just got a flyer from the San Diego police and firefighters unions (COPS) made their recommendations. They're taking no position on 73, and the following:

73 - (no position)
74 - No
75 - No
76 - No
77 - No
78 - Yes
79 - No
80 - (no position)
Mayor - Jerry Sanders
City Council District 2 - Rich Grosh
City Council District 5 - (no position)

They were really pushing their positions on the pharma props in that flyer. I wonder how much the pharma companies are paying them off!

18. The Alliance opposes 77
I have been phone banking for them every Sunday, and we have been urging voters to vote no on 74, 75, 76, and 77. The reason the Alliance hasn't taken a position on 73 is because some of the unions involved don't agree on the issue. I've been phone banking at Planned Parenthood on Monday nights to fight against 73.

15. they're claiming unions are dropping millions into prop 73 opposition...
which is a lie. CTA voted to take no position. The Alliance for a Better California (police, firefighters, nurses, and teachers, among others) have taken no position. The fundies ARE using this as their rallying cry!

7. I already voted absentee and voted against all
his initiatives. When do they count these ballots? Does anyone know? I wonder if the SOS knows ahead of time what the trend is in absentee ballots and could he leak this information to Schwarz. to give him a last ditch campaign effort before the official day of the election.

14. 75 and 74 are close
Happily, these 2 pulled ahead in the polls ever so slightly, but within the margin of error. Bottom line is still this: we need to energize our base and GOTV. I will be phone banking in Novemeber and all the way up until the polls close on the 8th.

21. Bakersfield!
You must be the only 4 Dems in the city. I am in Fresno and I thought I had it bad, Bakersfield was ranked as the 8th red-est city and Fresno was something like 47th.

Has Arnie been there a lot pimping his agenda? He has been here to Fresno 4 times in the last 2 months trying to work the crowd.

Yes. Absolutely. But happily, the last time he was here, the Dem protestors FAR outnumbered the pitter-patter of frightened looking Repukes forced into our angry mob. Ha!

Does anyone have a link where I can read more about the election and the various proposals? I've read a lot about 77, 78 and 79 (no, no, yes) but I am having a difficult time keeping track of the other ones...

Edited on Thu Nov-03-05 10:59 AM by 99Pancakes
Nix the first 6; yes on the last 2

NO = 73,74,75,76,77,78

YES = 79,80

The way things look by the 3 most recent polls, the electorate seems to prefer saying "No" to everything.

24. Happily, he is still a liability.
And it's getting worse. Seems the more he trolls for votes, the more Democrats realize, "If you are for it Arnie, we are AGAINST it." Ha!

He's in my city today (Bakersfield) begging for his base at the Repooplican't Headquaters to vote. I heard at lunch today that policemen and women, nurses and firefighters were outside the building razzing him. As a teacher, I would have joined them but it was too late a notice to call for a sub.

Go Democrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it was read by the chair that the repugs are trying to repress the repugs who are in the unions. Talk about a divided house. Maybe next we will see repub goon squads trolling for repugs so only Dems are allowed to vote.
