Schwarzenegger to call for tax increase, deep cuts

State education leaders said Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger told them today that he would push for a sales tax increase when he calls legislators back to Sacramento next month - and to expect cuts of more than $2 billion in school spending.

The leaders also said the governor estimated the current size of the gap between state revenues and spending in the budget he signed only last month at between $5 billion and $8 billion, and "possibly more."

on edit: i've also heard that he's calling for a 5-10% paycut from the state unions across the board! i'd really like to see him try that! he talks a lot of bullshit tho...so who knows?

1. These cuts of 2 billion in school spending?
Humboldt State U. is about to lose their WASC accreditation.

Think on that.

6. we can't keep being fiscally irresponsible.
I would love a progressive tax plan to come from Sacto, but we've got arnie there right now so I expect a sales tax increase. We need to get spending in line with incomes, because as it stands we can't really afford business as usual.
