Democrats have increased their ranks at a rate of 2-to-1 over Republicans since December 2007 and almost certainly will take the lead in registration for the Nov. 4 election when final numbers are released, given current trends.
County election officials say there are between 15,000 and 20,000 voters left to input into the system, a slow process that could stretch to the weekend.
The latest numbers released Wednesday show Democrats account for 539,560, or 36.26 percent of registered voters. Republicans have 539,939, or 36.28 percent.
As of Dec. 7, 2007, Democrats had 435,857 voters, or 34.4 percent. Republicans had 495,613, or 39.1 percent.
