A plea to those who drive in the Central Valley
SLOW THE F*CK DOWN IN THE FOG!

We had our first big accident today but only minor injuries.

I have to drive 99 to get to work every day.

1. Driving to SoCal X-mas day
What rout South would be best? I've driven in tule fog and it really sucks. If I can avoid it, I will, even if the rout is longer.

2. If from San Jose, probably I 5
Edited on Wed Dec-10-08 02:41 PM by MarkInCA
I don't know if the fog is as bad on I-5 as SR99, but I wouldn't use 99 for that route even in clear weather.

Edit: Just remembered I-5 doesn't hit San Jose. Not sure if 101 would be good.

Locals with input here?

4. Definitely cut over to I-5...
via 152 through Morgan Hill/Gilroy would be the most efficient way I can think of... 101 is nice, but longer. Expect traffic when you hit LA on Christmas Day.

7. 152 can be a parking lot. My brother sat in traffic for hours
the day before Thanksgiving. 101 is only longer depending where in L.A. your destination is. If you're in the S.F. Valley I'd take 101.

8. Yea, 152 can be a parking lot... if there's an accident
There's nothing to stop the flow of traffic otherwise as you're going through a lot of countryside and no city driving... again I stand by my I-5 as being the most efficient way; 101 is the way to mosey down, lol :)

10. Alternate routes from the Bay Area to I5
There's 680 to 580 to 205 to 5 My favorite, Slows at places, but no for long..
There's 80 to 113 to 5, somewhat obsure, but it works.
There's 9 to 35 to 82 to 580 to 205 to 5, My old Northern passage
All better & faster than 101 to 152....
Regards, Bob

5. Faith based driving.
I've never been in a serious accident on the freeway, but I've been incredibly close twice. Both were in heavy fog.

I love walking and riding my bike in the fog, but people get absolutely stupid when they're driving in it.

I always chalked it up to the huge numbers of fundies living out here. They must think that God will protect them, because I can't think of any other reason why someone would drive 60MPH when they can only see 25 feet past the end of their hood.

unconsciously increase their speed in the fog. Go figure.

11. 99 is bad in the fog and 99 is pretty beat up as well.
I hate being the lead in the tule fog.
