When Fidel Castro came to power 50 years ago on January 1, 1959, the Batista government was not the only thing kicked out of Cuba. The mobsters who had l ong dominated Havana's sultry nights lost a seemingly unstoppable cash machine. More than just a haven for rum and rhumba, the Caribbean capital was at the crossroads of the narcotics superhighway and a haven for gangsters who provided high-profile, high-life visitors with anything their hearts desired. In this evocative hour, DECLASSIFIED prowls the streets of pre-Castro Havana shedding light on secrets held for generations. Step back in time to a Havana of the moneyed elite, a cash cow for organized crime. This hour-long documentary features extensive interviews with inside sources and leading scholars.
We present this evening of films in conjunction with the Los Angeles Coalition in Solidarity with Cuba. The requested donation is $5.
