'Sacramento Six' face conservative backlash
The Republican's desperate, grim, dogged, rear-guard struggle for complete irrelevance continues.

Reporting from Lockeford, Calif. -- At Pete Peterson's sausage shop in this Central Valley farm town, customers can find just about any kind of spicy link, from Dakota bratwurst to British bangers.

But one thing out of stock is goodwill for state Sen. Dave Cogdill (R-Modesto), who represents the mostly Republican area. Cogdill voted last month to raise taxes.

"He's a loser," said Peterson, standing behind the counter recently next to a sign touting conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh. "A lot of people aren't working, and the politicians are overtaxing the ones that are. All we can do is vote them out of office."

Just weeks after Cogdill and five other Republican lawmakers joined the Legislature's majority Democrats to raise sales and income taxes and vehicle license fees, the "Sacramento Six" are facing a backlash from conservative activists and regular voters alike.

1. No backlash from this "regurlar voter"
The vehicle licence fee tax was another give away to the affluent. My feeling is if you can afford to buy and fill the tank of a humonguous SUV or gas guzzling car, you can pay the tax on it.

When that tax was reduced, my licence fee droped $12 because I had an older car. Only paid $40 to renew it instead of $52. So it's another tax that benefited the rich, and stole money that CA needs for road upkeep, environmental standards, etc. CA has a LOT of freeways, they cost A LOT of money to upkeep and mantenance. It's a tax I don't mind paying.

Now, car insurance that benefits the insurance companies, THAT is where we should be getting relief. Why don't these righties ever figure out that they give more money to big corporations than they do in taxes to the govt?

3. I've been to that Lockeford Sausage Shop
The scariest thing I saw was a large sign behind the counter that read, "Rush Limbaugh fan parking only." I didn't even like their linguica. It was dry, lean, and tasteless. For best linguica, go to San Jose and buy Goulart's.
