Men from tiger attack arrested again
Source: SF Chronicle

(08-06) 12:13 PDT San Jose -- The two San Jose brothers who survived a Christmas Day 2007 tiger attack at the San Francisco Zoo were arrested in San Mateo for misdemeanor violations after a traffic stop, the latest in a series of run-ins with the law, authorities said today.

The brothers recently split what remained of a $900,000 settlement the zoo paid them in connection with the attack. Their arrests come two weeks after the older sibling, Kulbir Dhaliwal, 25, of San Jose was booked on suspicion of felony cocaine possession after being stopped near San Jose State University.

The latest incident happened at 1:20 a.m. Wednesday when San Mateo police Officer Joseph Cassin stopped Dhaliwal for driving on a shoulder on-ramp to Highway 101 near Peninsula Avenue, said Steve Wagstaffe, San Mateo County's chief deputy district attorney. Dhaliwal's passenger was his brother, Amritpal "Paul" Dhaliwal, 21.

The officer smelled the odor of marijuana in the car and saw an open bottle of Grey Goose vodka inside, Wagstaffe said. It was the same brand of vodka that San Francisco police found in Kulbir Dhaliwal's car after the tiger attack, authorities said.

Kulbir Dhaliwal failed a series of field-sobriety tests and had a blood-alcohol level of .10 percent, authorities said. The level that constitutes drunken driving is 0.08 percent. When the officer asked Amritpal Dhaliwal for his identification, he lied and said he was Tarlok Dhaliwal, his 26-year-old brother who had also been arrested in the incident near San Jose State, authorities said.

2. How could they get a million bucks for getting their friend killed? We reward criminal negligence in
this country now? If anyone should get a settlement it is the family of the dead man who tried to help his (idiotic) friends.

5. Bullshit
those fuckwads should have gotten killed, too. And as I recall, the tiger did get killed, just for doing what a tiger is supposed to do.

At the rate these asswipes are going, it won't be long before they're official Darwin Award winners.

Had the tiger not been provoked it would not have left the enclosure. Unfortunately, there were no witnesses.

It's only a matter of time until they end up in prison or are killed in the process of a crime, IMO.

10. One of these assholes
Was being attacked when the tiger was shot. But I agree they shouldn't have gotten anything. Even the dead man. They provoked the tiger.

11. I remember when this first came up
All kinds of people said they wouldn't get damages from the zoo. A few of us maintained otherwise.

That being said, they seem like irresponsible people. Obviously the legal system thought that was irrelevant, as far as the tiger attack was concerned.

12. $900,000 buys a lot of vodka and cocaine. Throw in a couple hookers and these 2 are set.
What a pair.
