Can Brown just preempt his opponents? Probably.
San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom is currently way behind in fundraising ($1.2 million) and being pushed (via a whisper campaign) to accept the Lt. Governor spot. Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has already dropped out.
That would leave Brown in an uncontested primary, hoarding his $7.1 million campaign account, and running as a “frugal” Democrat. His campaign headquarters are in his basement, and his one paid staffer is his wife...
