If anyone has one for sale or knows of anyone who does, please PM me. It looks like people are driving up here and offloading their kitties. Geeze.

1. Our county shelter loans traps. Maybe the
humane societies do the same.

2. This county used to loan them, too. But when I called county
and city, they said their funds had been cut and the program has been discontinued. But good call, I'll try the Humane Society. Maybe they have traps to loan.

The traps aren't expensive but I've been out of work for more than two years and can't buy one. It's going to have to be a gift or a loan or a token payment. The upside is I just got a six month contract to rescue a company from the IRS.

There is no feral colony up here -- probably because these kitties become coyote dinner deliveries. I just can't not try to intervene at this point.

7. I just have to keep asking around. Until a trap is available
I'm setting food out by the horse's water trough. There's a red and white kitty that has found it. I believe she's the mom of a litter I saw running across our road the other night. Maybe she'll find the food and get used to being fed and hang out for a while.

4. Someone at the office in front knows of a rescue organization in SJ
I helped her get two tiny kitties out of the shed behind our office the other day. But there are several others who won't get near people.

"Offloading their kitties"?! :grr: :banghead: :argh:

6. My friend used to bait her traps with sardines in tomato.
It worked although not exclusively on cats. Sometimes other guys showed up in the trap, too. :)

9. Vets loan them out sometimes
One around here asks you to write a check for the purchase of the trap in case you don't return it.

If you are in Nor Cal these folks might be able to help. I do some volunteer work with them near where I live by Berkeley.

18. I used to work for a vet and he recommended that people
who fed strays only feed very small amounts. Just enough for the ferrel cat to survive on. If you over feed a wild cat their reproductive cycle starts up and they can average about 3 litters a year.

Maybe the humane society could refer you to the vendor who sells the traps.

19. Right-o on the feeding. And I can't buy a trap right now.
They're only about $40 but I'm just recently employed after two years of piling up bills.

In any case, have a couple of emails out to local rescue groups, and will see my vet on Friday. He might have one that I can use or buy used. Someone will find a used trap that they don't need or can sell to me for $25 bucks. :)

20. if you take them to a shelter, they'll end up getting baked
cats are remarkably resiliant in regressing to their natural survival abilities, they can go ferral pretty quickly

That just won't happen. :)
